Welcome to the Friends of the Turrill Sculpture Garden page
|
For the many people who are concerned about the threatened closure of Summertown Library, which would inevitably affect the sculpture garden, please follow this link to find out the latest details from the Friends of Summertown Library. We were delighted to learn that Summertown Library has been taken off the list of threatened libraries thanks to the huge outcry over this plan. At present we are going ahead with our programme of exhibitions as advertised and planning new ones for next year, although we wait to hear how the Friends of Summertown Library and the County Council can work together over the coming months to secure a sound and possibly even more exciting future for Summertown Library and help to rescue other libraries in Oxfordshire that are still under threat. |
Summertown 2000 was started in 1998 to raise funds to build a local public sculpture garden behind Summertown Library in South Parade. This was achieved in May 2000 when the Turrill Garden was opened thanks to the support of many generous local donors and especially the Venables family of Shepherd and Woodward. Now we continue to support the garden maintenance and try to publicise the existence of the garden and the exhibitions in it.
The Society changed its name to the Friends of the Turrill Sculpture Garden in November 2004.
We have put on various events throughout the year for everyone to enjoy locally. The more members we have the more we can do including lectures, quizzes, dinners etc. Details of all these events and more are in the biannual Newsletter.
We now have a special
new discount scheme for Friends of the Turrill Garden:
We thought a way to show our appreciation of your membership in helping the
garden to be sustained and to help those sculptors who exhibit with us would
be to start a new scheme as follows: If you have been a Friend for 3 months
or more you will be entitled to a 10% discount on any sculpture purchases under
£500 and 5% on any over £500.
Anybody who is not
a Friend who buys a sculpture will be given one year's free membership of the
Friends of the Turrill. We hope this will encourage sales in these stickier
times and keep the creative juices flowing for the artists.
The Turrill Garden is supported by many individuals in and around Summertown as well as by our Corporate Members; we do hope you will join us in this work. Please contact us and/or send us feedback about the Friends of the Turrill Sculpture Garden and this web site.
The cost of joining the Friends of the Turrill Sculpture Garden for a yearly membership is:
Full members £5.00
Family membership at one address £7.50
Students £3.50
Corporate members £50.00 suggested minimum
Subscriptions are due on 1 September each year.
