Summer Music Festival 2023

The Friends of the Turrill Garden are delighted to present our first Summer Music Festival !

 

June 3rd – Jazz by

 

Started in the 1980s as a student busking band, which won ‘London Busking Band of the Year’ in 1986.   It reformed recently in Oxford when two of the original members reunited, and is now a five piece band playing an eclectic and lively selection of jazz, fusion and blues based music.

Jay Arden on keyboards and vocals, singer Claudia Smith with husband Mike Smith on bass , Matthew Faulk on guitar and Chris Moffett on drums.

June 10th  – Jazz by

Playing Latin American jazz, including Buena Vista Social Club, Willie Colon, Fruko y sus Tesos and Oscar de Leon

June 17th  – Opera Anywhere present Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’              

A young man with a passion for reading discovers a book about a fantastical world in which cruel darkness is defeated by the light. Drawn in by the magic of the story, he becomes lost in his own adventure meeting the Queen of the Night and her rival, the mighty Sarasto, high priest of the sun.  He is charged with a quest: to rescue the Queen’s beautiful daughter Pamina kidnapped by the mean and greedy Monostatos, Guided by Three Boys and accompanied by the bird-catcher Papageno, Tamino sets out on a journey in search of love, truth and honour.                                      Sung in English.

June 24th  – Jarisel Folk Group

An exhilarating feast of folk music from the Scottish, Irish, French, Italian and Latin American traditions played by Jarisel Folk group: Jacqueline Johnson - cello, accordion,                Arne Richards - accordion, keyboard, Isabel Knowland - violin, Hardanger fiddle,         Elena Piras - vocals, guitar, bodhran
